BIRBHUM

 

About the district:

     Birbhum is the northern-most district of Burdwan division. It is bounded by Jharkhand in the west, Murshidabad on the east and Burdwan on the south . The district is characterized by its undulating topography and the percentage of high, medium and low land are about 23, 55 and 22 percent respectively, a considerable amount of cultivable land (about 80,000 ha.), falls under drought prone area and about 21,000 ha. of land suffers damage due to flood. Soils are mainly lateritic  in nature.
